The Internet can be a wonderful resource for children. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and peers, and play interactive games. Anyone who is old enough to punch in a few letters on a keyboard can literally have access to the whole world. But that access can pose hazards for children. That is why it is important to be aware of what your children are seeing and hearing on the Internet, who they are "friends" with, and what they are sharing about themselves with the rest of the world. Just like any other safety concern, it is important to talk to your children about your concerns, take advantage of resources to protect them, and closely monitor their online activities.
The best online safety measure for any child is the parents. By talking with them about potential dangers online and monitor their computer use, you will help them surf the Internet safely. By getting involved with your child's online activities, you will take an active role in protecting your children from the dangers of the Internet.
